i am bored and dying to death of bordem and sadness. i have a unhappy family because my mom and my dad's argument. my brother is stupid and both my sisters are greedy and evil about money. i need someone to save me i am really dying over what is in my situation now. i am very lost in my world. i dont know what to do. i know many of you dont care, but if you dont care then dont even bother to answer my question. if you really want to answer or rescue me from my life then please cuz i really need ur help. or this and everything would end my life. i am about to enter college. Close to Whelping time, Do I have everything?

Ok, so I have done all the proper things in getting my girl ready for puppies including OFA,CERF,Heart, and Thyroid. Ch Sire and *****. She is day 59 today.

Have been taking her temp now 3x a day and no drop yet. I expect her to whelp over the weekend. Here is what I have ready.

Whelping Box with pig rail.

old blankets %26amp; old towels to rub down pups

puppy wee pads for the under the dam

dental floss and scissors for the cords

suction thingy

puppy formula and 1 bottle (insurance ;-0)

hot water bottle

nice quiet room with adequate heat.

calcium tablets for after she whelps

beef liver for after whelping ( I was told by my mentor to feed it raw)

directions for the 24 hour vet incase of complications after hours.

twin size mattress for me to sleep on.

Is there anything else I forgot?

She was bred on Dec 23 and 24th natural ties. Saw 4 pups on U/S but I think there may be 1-2 more. Bouv's usually have 6-8.

Bella is doing fine and pups move alot!

Close to Whelping time, Do I have everything?
"Ready" box complete with hot water bottle just in case you have to make a dash to the ER vet with dam and pups.

Hair dryer- after I towel the pups off.. I dry them and hand back to mom.

Hemostats- clamp off a too short umbilicus (not necessary but great to have on hand).. then you can tie it (also handy when the dam decides she's going to have 3 pups in 5 minutes).

I wouldn't bother with the wee pads under the dam.. I use about 40-50 layers of newspapers (so I can pull up a few layers as needed) and a ton of towels then I just do laundry.

Edit: My favorite book- The Whelping and Rearing of Puppies by Muriel Lee... has a great explanation of slinging.

Not only have directions for the vet, but have a number and a phone right next to you in case you need to have him help coach you through the birth or if you have any concerns.. Congratulations on your new pups (when they're born lol).

She will do the work, you just have to offer support, and a helping hand if she runs into trouble. My worry wart sheltie/border collie had 8 and I only had to resuscitate one of them. She was a wonderful birth mom, and great mom for her babes. They just need our support and kind words.

I have been "midwife" to 8 litters of Standard Poodles over the years and have encountered few problems. Most dogs, especially large breeds, tend to have no problems whelping, but it's good to be prepared. Lucky you, love that "puppy breath"

Mentor's number on speed dial. Or better yet, can someone experienced come sit with you? I had someone come help me deliver my first litter, their help was invaluable.

Reply:I like kitchen towel sized towels for rubbing down puppies - not too much bulk to get in the way. And the rough towels stimulate them better.

Sounds like you're as ready as you can get. Keep the coffee maker ready... although the excitement may keep you awake just fine. :)

I use goat's milk instead of a manufactured milk replacement, but that's the only thing I'd change, and it's really a personal preference.
Reply:Sounds like you have everything in order,but pups will need to nurse off of Mom in order to get the antibioties to fight off infection especially for the first three days and thereon if at all possible.Do you know what to do in case the pups come breech birth intead of head first? If not please make sure you check on this.Your Mom expecting should have been placed on the calicum tablets 1 week in advance of whelping the pups.I also always put my pups on a heating pad set on low setting as the pups are being born,this way the pups don't get chilled.Good luck with your new litter.

A dental Dam is a rubber square that is placed on the vagina for clitoral stimulation by tongue or finger (what ever your pleasure) as protection from actually touching the bare flesh. You can still be satisfied safely. If you can't find dental dam then you can use saran wrap. Educate yourself and be safe.

For my Human Sexuality class, we're supposed to create a "Latexhibition" project, which in essence is just something unique that is made from latex products that protect against the organisms that cause sexually transmitted diseases (condoms, dental dams, latex gloves, etc.)

What a cool idea, the only problem I am having is I don't know what you could make that is unique and appropriate for a classroom.

Use a couple latex gloves make it so it looks like their holding hands take two condoms, don't unroll them, cut out the middle of each one and create "rings" use colored condoms for a cooler affect. Put the condom "rings" on the wedding ring finger of each hand. Attach the hands to a poster board that is decorated in a wedding theme that says " I'll wait for...." at the top, then at the bottom have it say "I do"

Just an idea.

Please tell me the active ingredient of your suggestion, not just the brand name (I'm in Australia).

Reply:I'd suggest you use neat Chlorhexidine (do not add water) to wipe down play equipment. It's a powerful antibacterial that is used in hospitals. Your local chemist should stock it, just wander in and ask them for it.

Make sure that all the furniture you provide for the party is in very very good condition and not worn or cracked or chipped in any way.

I'd also suggest that you ask your guests to bring their own toy bags, and to insist that they use your own toys on you (if they play with you). If you decide to play, make sure that you designate a DM (dungeon master) in your place, to watch over the other guests. There needs to be someone "watching out" for the people at the party at all times, to make sure that everything goes smoothly. As a DM, always remember to do *everything* with 100% consent (even if that is taking pictures of scening people), and make sure that the consent rule is followed by anyone participating in the party. I'd suggest that you make sure to get to really know your guests; knowing that everyone will respect consent and confidentiality and stay that way after people go back to their normal lives makes everything feel so much nicer, and allows you to relax fully.

My partner and i bring our own toybag to public gatherings, and we insist that anyone who wishes to play uses our toys on us. For most occasions, we play exclusively with each other, and with those we trust. The best play parties i've been to are ones where there is a separate, very private area for sexual activities if people wish it, and another area where people can step away from the BDSM aspects of the night and just chat and socialise. For other things for the party, i'd suggest plenty of thick blankets (or a doona or two) that you can drape over shoulders and around a body, after a scene. A submissive coming up from a subspace can get very cold due to the change in core body temperature (when i've been in a subspace, i've had to have both blankets and a heater to make me comfortable again afterwards).

Maybe do a bit of forward planning and ring your guests and ask them about things like allergies, and if they suffer epilepsy or asthma or disorders that can affect their balance or ability to be suspended for long periods of time (it is a good idea to ask all these things so as you can keep your guests 100% safe at all times, and in case something happens and you need to inform the paramedics or what not).

A simple bleach solution would be VERY cheap as a disinfectant, and you could have bottles in every room/scene. It must be mixed with COLD water at the ratio of 3/4 cup to 1 gallon of water is the disinfectant level and NOT let to sit overnight (I also kept reading about a 10-1 ratio, but don't know how many cups are in a gallon :).

The major disadvantage of Chlorhexidines is that it is not the most effective against many gram negative bacteria or viruses that love water (hydrophilic). However, bleach reportedly doesn't kill chlamydia...

If there is limited exchange of bodily fluids going on (not the "hard play" of piercings, blood lettings, or whatever), then you should be safe with almost any disinfectant, as long as you dry it off with a paper towel (which also would help prevent residues from irritating any sensitive skin).

I don't actually have any ideas, but you can always use liquid latex (it's sold in jars in many colors) or buy sheets of latex.

Think about something creative with balloons too.

Ok, I am aware that most of the population has oral herpes and I think I do to. So my question is, can I still give oral to another woman or would that lead to her getting genital herpes? Even if there was no sore present? Also, I've been hearing about using dental dams as protection besides on online, is there another place to buy them?

They are hard to find....try drug stores (CVS in my town has them, but not Eckerds) you might have to look around - they don't stock items that don't sell before they expire %26amp; they're not a big seller!

But when you have a cold sore - don't go down on someone - or kiss them - you'll keep them safe that way

Reply:if u have cold sores then u have oral herpes. they are contagious so yes u can give them to another person. just don't give oral when the cold sore is there. there is less of a risk to pass it on when there is no sore but there is still a small risk. u can try adult sex shops (if your old enough) and if there is one in your area. if not u may have to buy on line.
Reply:You can still give them the herpes virus if you have oral herpes. It's best to use a dental dam and you should avoid going down on her when you have an outbreak with or without a dental dam. You can always go to the doctor and have him prescribe Valtrex. It's supposed to supress both the herpes simplex 1 and 2 virus.

It makes me CRAZY that the person I got this ridiculous virus from is not obligated to tell his partners that he gets cold sores sometimes yet I am now going to have to tell everyone I choose to be with that I have "gential herpes"

It is the SAME VIRUS and since most couples engage in oral sex (probably more frequently) as well as intercourse it seems like the telling should be the same.

If you say you have oral HSV-1 and the person allows you to perform oral on them than isn't that functionally the same as them having intercourse with a person who has HSV-1 genitally.

I also have genital hsv-1, and the thing that really gets to me is that my boyfriend can tell people he gets cold sores, or even choose not to tell, and they don't bat an eyelid or blame him or make inferences about his sex life, while if you tell people you have genital hsv-1 they react completely differently. People can't seem to get their heads round the fact that they are the same - in fact genital hsv-1 is five times less infectious than oral hsv-1!

I have said in the past on a couple of replies that I would just tell men I got oral cold sores, and if they are prepared to receive unprotected oral sex from me knowing that risk, then that's just fine and I've covered myself. But people like to place a moral burden on you if you have genital hsv-1.

You can see that when you look up answers for cold sores and genital hsv-1 on here. Cold sores are 'just a cold sore', there is no moral obligation, and the advice is always that everyone gets them and you should just avoid contact when you have a sore, never that you are obligated to tell someone before you kiss them or perform oral on them, or that you should never have any oral contact again without using a dental dam! It is such a double standard it infuriates me. I mean, can you imagine telling someone that your prospective partner has cold sores and people advising you to run for the hills and saying that it is because he is dirty or promiscuous? Because that happens on here a lot with genital hsv-1.

I told a male friend recently that I had genital herpes. He openly confessed that he didn't have a clue what it was. I explained, I told him it was the same virus as oral cold sores, and he still told me that although he would consider it for a long term relationship, if it was anything less, or if we had been at the making out stage and I had told him, he would have run for the hills. He said it 'sounded icky' and kept on and on asking me if I would have told him before he ever laid a finger on me. Made me feel really great. Since when did cold sores elicit that response?

People seem to think it is worse 'down there' when that simply isn't true. The people who place a stigma on the genital version and not the oral simply don't have a clue what it is. Yes, people with oral herpes should tell their partners - but we shouldn't stigmatise oral herpes, as seems to be happening among some young people who are starting to make a vague connection between cold sores and genital herpes. We should just accept them both the way cold sores are accepted now - a nuisance but not a big deal.

The reason I ask is because I just posted a question about having oral sex with my boyfriend who, like me, has never had any kind of sexual contact with anyone else. I asked about the risk factor of contracting a disease and some people understandably said that it's never smart to do even oral sex unprotected because things like hiv could be present even in virgins from non-sex scenarios.

So my question is, what about married couples (when they're not trying to concieve.) If two complete virgins who trust eachother are unsafe then it sounds like there is no safe circumstance and even married couples should never sexually exchange body fluids because there is always a potential risk.

These days, should unprotected sex only occur when trying to have a child? And all other times things like dental dams need to be used because even with someone you trust, it's possible to spread something without knowing it?

Good question!

Lesbian sex, like all sex, should be done safely. Doesn't matter that sexually transmitted diseases have lower risks of transmission between women- the risks are still there.

Always put condoms on sex toys, and change the condoms when you change who you're using them on. If you haven't used this rule before, boil the sex toys to sterilize them (if you can), or wash them in the dishwasher or plenty of hot, soapy water before using them again. For cunnilingus (oral sex) and analingus, you're going to want to use dental dams or Saran wrap. Whenever touching the genital area, always wear gloves, and make sure not to cross-contaminate by touching yourself with infected gloves.

i'd keep it to more of a serial monogamy thing, like one girl at a time, and make sure you know she was tested within the last year like women should be. use that protection every time. even if her pap came back clean, like mine always did, she could have a latent HPV infection, like i did. i thought i was clean and probably gave my infection to a few partners.

just picking up girls in bars is probably a bad idea,because you can't exactly grill her on her sexual history. i'd develop some sort of relationship where you can ask these questions before having intimate contact.

HIV/AIDS is rare and frail, so it is hard to catch. that doesn't give you any guarantees, it just means you don't have to worry as much as some people do. it isn't that common. now, hep C is more common and also kills people and there is no cure, it just gets less publicity. be very, very careful about hep C. about 1-2% of the population has it, much higher than HIV.

prostitutes who use protection and wash themselves and their partners before and after sex have the same STD rate as the general population, and in some cases, lower. that shows how good protection is. also, australia is the most sexually active country in the world, and has the lowest HIV/STD rates in the world. this is because they use condoms.

if i'd used condoms, there is a much less likely chance i'd have the HPV i have (though it is a toss-up on whether or not condoms can always protect against HPV) that i had to get surgery for. i also have a couple of bumps on my vulva that i suspect are warts and i am going to see the MD soon about it. never, ever will i have unprotected sex again!!!

The truth is we have to be very careful when we choose a partner. It really does not matter how many people you sleep with either. i no i have root canl but idk that other stuff .

These procedures are fine with a local anesthetic. You shouldn't have much pain afterwards. I've had four root canals, and they're the most uncomfortable. Getting a crown is nothing (I have eight).
Reply:There are dental clinics that are willing to "knock you out" for just about any procedure. It comes at a high price though. I cannot stand the dentist and I am IV sedated for any major procedures...you're not asleep but believe me you don't know anything happening around you. You could always get the gas, that works too. Hunt around for a dentist that suits your needs.
Reply:if you are asking about a root canal, don't worry. They will have to give you novacaine to numb the area, all they do is get the dead root out of your tooth. The great thing about this is it saves your natural tooth. They will go in your tooth and again it will be NUMB and then they will put something in there to keep it in place. I just remember it looked rubbery when I had mine done. The root canal I had lasted 8 years. Other than the needle pinching, I swear it does not hurt a bit !

It's done all the time and believe me, no practioner is going to lose business because he says his procedures are painless. The best way to lose a patient is to promise them that it isn't going to hurt, and then hurt them and say, " Oh, would you like some sedation?" Shop around. Some people are more sensitive and anxious than others and a real professional realizes this.

I had a filling replaced (for the third time) and a cavity drilled last week. The teeth were right next to each other. I was given five shots of novacaine, but all that wore off before they even started drilling. They had to use a dental dam and put bands around the tooth. I had the worst migraine of my life, and it still hurts to even chew on those teeth.

for the mean time try putting some freshly ground pepper directly on the gums of the tooth that hurts....this will dull the pain for only a few minutes....you will need to keep doing it....also use orajel and if thats not available you can try using a sore throat spray

or you just deal with the nausea the pain killers bring rather than the pain of a toothache

ive had two kids and would rather be in labor again than have to deal with the pain that the toothaches bring

Reply:Try to massage back of the hands between the bones (metacarpals), and take Echinacea. You can find Echinacea in vitamin section. Also, massage the shoulder, back and top of the neck, head, forehead, top of the nose, face, front of the ears, around the mouth (take it easy on this area), side of the neck, and top of the chest to ease the pressure. Even some lesbians have had intercourse with males and may contract something. 95% of all cervical cancer is actually a form of HPV that remains nearly undetectable until cancer cells appear. these 95% of cases happen because males do not show signs of this type of HPV as far as i know, and once their bodies contract if from a female, they can spread it to every (or some) female(s) they have unprotected sex with after that.

Plus dental dams don't do jack against HPV (gen warts) or herpes.

HPV is an extremely common STI - in fact a lot more people have it than don't. Often there are no symptoms.

You can have any visible warts removed by a doctor. Provided they don't come back, you'll be in the clear. It's still possible to transmit the virus to another person, but the risk is substantially lower with no visible symptoms.

HPV is not curable, per se, but it is a virus that resides only locally within the skin that it has infected. Once symptomatic tissue has been removed or destroyed, the virus stays latent in deeper layers of skin. It can come back, but it often does not.

Current thought is that if you remain asymptomatic for 10 years your body has effectively expelled the virus. After this length of time your skin has grown and turned over so many times it will have pushed any dormantly infected tissue out.

Don't freak out too much. This is something that just about everyone has, even if they don't know it.

The good thing is that if you don't currently have a break out, or feel like you are getting one, there is a good chance that you wont pass it on to someone that doesn't have it if you have unprotected sex, BUT there is still a chance. If someone truly loves you, something like that wont matter at all. The big thing is to have the talk about it BEFORE you have sex at all, and let them make the decision....then if they want info, you can invite them to go to the doctor with you, and be able to ask their own questions.

Okay, I made a really stupid decision and now I really regret it. I think I put myself at risk for contracting HIV. It was really stupid. I know.

Now I just need to find out how likely it is that I contracted HIV.

I was traveling in a third world country last week. I went to a pick up bar with working girls, and I had sex with one of them. She was a 28 year old black woman. In this country AIDS is a problem and I'm sure that the rate is higher among working girls. She gave me oral sex WITH a condom on and we had sex WITH a condom on. The condom never broke. If I'd just left it at that I probably would have been fine, because condoms usually prevent these things from spreading. But I made the stupid decision to perform oral sex on her, and for a long time too, since she really liked it. But in retrospect that was really stupid of me because it was unprotected oral sex...no dental dam or anything. I don't think I had any cuts inside my mouth. What are the chances I get HIV from this?

Ok. Now like 60+% of Americans I have HSV - 1 in my mouth. Not from oral sex, but most likely from a toothbrush. I do realize that if it ever was the case, and the woman was aware, I should use a dental dam, as well as be on suppressive medication (with no oral while sores are there).

The QUESTION is, somehow I doubt this would help, but combining the 2 methods with rinsing my mouth out with some 50/50 Rubbing Alcohol (Or the equivalent of something else that is shown to kill viral cells), decrease the chance of transmission.

And Neea is right - you don't get it from a toothbrush. IF you have it, most likely you were infected as a child, like most people are. A lot of people don't realize that cold sores are infectious, and that's how its spread.

And no - IF you have hsv1, there isn't any need to use anything like alcohol to help lower the risk of transmission.

IF you have it, and are that concerned, you could take an antiviral, such as valtrex or acyclovir, to help supress it and cut your shedding rates.

There is a frame ( goes on the outside of the mouth and holds the rubber dam material in place ) There is also a clamp which goes around the tooth. Also needed is a puncher to punch the hole into the dam material, and the rubber dam material itself. There are also a little pair of plier type things...this is used to place the clamp around the tooth that is to be exposed during the procedure. If more than one tooth is involved, then several clamps are used on each anchor tooth.

I have genital herpes, but I do have hsv-1 not hsv-2, and hsv-1 usually causes oral herpes. Personally, I have not changed anything. Oral sex has never been my thing in a big way, but I haven't started using protection for it with my boyfriend. The way I see it, the only thing they are going to get from giving oral sex is a cold sore, or oral herpes, and they are risking that every single time they kiss someone, so why worry about it? And 80% of people have oral herpes anyway, so they can't catch hsv-1 again and are very unlikely to catch hsv-2 on top of their hsv-1. Don't worry about it so much.

The woman does not have to be menstruating to pass on HIV, secretions can carry the virus. Your best bet is to use protection if you do not know your partners history. Dental dams, a cut condom, or even saran wrap could be used to protect you. Herpes is not a rare as you seem to think, many people have it have don't know it and it can be passed without a break out.

My life became quite stressful a year ago when my newborn daughter suffered a stroke. She is fine now but I have been struggling with some painful and scary symptoms. When she was about 4 months old I had a dental filling put in. The dentist used a horrible dental dam contraption on a metal frame that really wrenched my mouth open. From that point on I have had face pain and noticed a swollen gland in my neck. I was very tense from the problems with my daughter and I notice even now that I hold my jaw tensley and sometimes clench my teeth. I believe that the stupid dental thing in my mouth injured the muscles/tendons in the tmj area and exacerbated any tension I already had in that area. Now I have alot of the typical teeth clenching/tmj symptoms such as occassional ear pain, head and neck pain and tightness down that side of my head, neck, and back, AND I still have swollen glands in my neck on that side. Has anyone else experienced swollen neck glands with TMJ and clenching?

You know what really sucks about that, is that you don't know whether to go to a dentist or a doctor. I had pain in that area for two years and spent thousands of dollars.

Honestly, I think, a combo of your sinuses, ear infection and perhaps your bite. Go to a new dentist and get them to check your bite. Then go get some ear drops. Better yet, get some antibiotics if you can persuade your doctor. He'll say, I can't see any evidence of an ear infection. No, but beg him anyways. At least get the ear drops from him. Get some sinus spray from him too. Get a sinus X-ray, although they are not accurate. Sinuses can play a real havoc on your face and your jaw I think.

Suck on a candy to relax your jaw and produce saliva. It'll keep your teeth from hurting too maybe.
Reply:I had stress in my life a few years back,and clenched my teeth in my sleep until they cracked.As a result,I have had 7 root canals,7 fake teeth and an enormous bill to go with it all.When the stress went away,so did the clenching.Yoga,meditation,relaxing baths,and any kind of exercise are all stress busters.Unfortunately,there are alot of really crummy dentists out there.Call 1-800 DENTIST,and look for one in your area.They are all screened,and I have heard good things about the company.Best of luck.My prayers for your beloved daughter.
Reply:The rubber dam they used should have in no way caused you any problems. All it does is isolate the tooth they were working on so that saliva did not compromise the filling they were placing. You are probably having all these problems with clinching/grinding due to the stress in your life, not from the rubber dam!! Consult a dentist about getting you a night guard to wear. It will help a lot with the symptoms you are experiencing. Good luck!
Reply:Stress in your life will cause you to clench and grind your teeth. You should go and have a night guard made at the dentist's to help prevent permanent damage to your teeth, by wearing them down, and possibly major complications with you TMJ. Good Luck!
Reply:Clenching your teeth and grinding your jaw can cause headaches, I know that.

I'm a clencher and grinder, and my dentist made me a mouthguard. The mouthguard is a piece of silicon that fits over my upper teeth while I sleep. I noticed after my dentist made me one that they sell kits at the pharmacy to mold your own for about $20. It's worth trying.

Reply:Yeah you surly seem to be having some TMJ issues, and the only answer for you is to see a TMJ specialist. They'll take special X-rays and give you a treatment plan that will work for you individual case. You'll also need a custom nightguard that you may even have to wear some days, especially in stressful situations. A good doctor will also give you some special exercises to do in order to keep the pain in your jaw to very little or none at all. The first 2 to 3 months you may have to visit the specialist every 1 to 2 weeks to have your applicance adjusted. I think you should look into this as soon as possible. This doesn't go away by itself. Good Luck!

I have Delta dental. The dentists that I've asked said it is not something they do. I have extreme gag reflexes and dental sensitivity. After having done both, I would rather be hit in the face with a baseball bat then have a dental dam inserted in my mouth... It really is that bad for me. I'm willing to pay, I know that my coverage won't take care of this. I just want to know if there is any use in continuing to try to find a dentist to do this.

Ask your dentist for a prescription for "Ativan".

You will have to have someone drive you to and from the dentist, but its worth it.

I have bad gag reflexes also, and it works great.

3 hrs goes by in what feels like 10 minutes.

Reply:There are many dentists out there who practice sedation during procedures, it's just going to be a matter of finding one. Do a google search of dentists in your area and then just call around to find out. There should be one, it's a common thing now, so many people are terrified of the dentist. Hope this helps. :-)
Reply:yes, many dentists still use these procedures. usually it's only for when you are having major mouth surgery like removing your wisdom teeth, but i've heard other dentists who offer this type of service for people exactly like you.

Reply:Good luck finding a dentist that will knock you out for that procedure they dont like doing it because it can be risky especially for something like that. This isnt going to require any stitches or cutting into tissue.
Reply:Go to an oral surgeon. At the office I work at if you want to be put to sleep we'll put you to sleep if you're willing to pay and don't have underlying health conditions.

It's a weird question but, I have always heard and alwasy wondred. Experts say that dental dam can be used on a woman during oral sex for protection but were would you purchase it the only dental dam I know how to get a whole of is in a actual dental office. Is it still common practice to use dental dams when doing dental procedures or have they become a thing of the past, because everyone I know seems to know them more from the sex-ed point of view.

Dental dams are still being used but each dentist is different. We were required to used them all the time in dental school as a learning mechanism. Out in private practice, each dentist uses their own disgression. Procedures such as most root canals and certain fillings that require very good isolation will need them. They are pretty popular for young kids as to prevent them from accidentally swallowing something.
Reply:Dental dams are used any time the dentist needs to isolate a tooth. They are almost always used during a root canal and many pedodontists (specializing in children) use them because it keeps water and tooth "gunk" from going down the patients throat.

Reply:Well preventing pregnancy is easier than the STDs. Since you can't count on her to be responsible I'd choose a 5 year protection. I would opt to have a norplant implant put in. Norplant is an effective, long-acting, reversible contraceptive for women that protects for up to five years. Dental dams are an extremely effective means of preventing infection from vaginal or anal secretions. There is little data available on rates of infection after use of the dental dam. There are a few important concerns which may reduce the effectiveness of the barrier. Before you use the dam, lightly rinse it off with warm water. Dry with a towel. Then check to be sure the dam is free of holes or breakage. You can check the dam before you use it by holding it up to light or seeing if water is able to pass through it. Finally, ensure that only one side of the dam comes in contact with the genitals, and that the dam is used only once. Otherwise you are defeating the whole purpose of using the dam in the first place.

Only use water based lubricants (we recommend Astroglide) when using dental dams.

Dental dams are not the most difficult piece of protection to use. Some people prefer that the person performing oral sex should hold the dam so that the receiver can just sit back and relax. Others think that the receiver should hold the dam so the other partner has his/her hands free for other stimulation. As an alternative, some dental dams are now made with an adhesive strip which will hold the dam in place. Remember to use some water based lubricant on the vagina or anus beforehand to increase the amount of stimulation received.

Actually, Ms. Dental Hygienist, "rubber dams" are almost always made out of latex.

At first it can seem like it's ruining the fun, but the more you do it the more natural it becomes. Get the thinnest condoms you can find, but don't use lambskin ones, as they're porus. If you watch porn at all, make sure it's safer sex porn (the actors all wear condoms)...that might help make it seem more normal to you, also. You can also use saran wrap in place of a dental dam, it's a bit thinner, but make sure it's not the microwaveable kind, as that kind has tiny holes in it. Use flavored condoms or lube if you're giving oral sex (don't have them used on you, though, as the sugars in flavored lubes and condoms can give you a yeast infection). If you have a regular partner, get tested now, continue using condoms for the next 6 months, and then get tested again. If you're both negative at that point, go without condoms if you'd like. If you don't have a regular partner, it's better to use protection every time. The more you do it, the more normal it will feel. If you want to be able to give oral sex without a condom, stay away from the head of the penis. Just focus on the base and the testicles, that way no fluid gets into your mouth. Don't give up safe sex yet, you're too young to pay the price for the rest of your life.

Reply:Change your attitude. I had a partner once who said to me that he never used condoms for sex. I refused to have intercourse with him for this reason! I use condoms 100% of the time with my partners. I can't even imagine having intercourse without protection. I would be so anxious during the act that I wouldn't enjoy it.

i got the comdom with instructions on it and one of them says how to use it as a dental dam i dont understand the instructions can you help me?

it is to protect the mouth against HIV infection and genital warts that can cause cancer....

The gums have lots of tiny scrapes on them and yes the infection can get in there easy....

These days a lot of sex shops sell them

Strange how we stress how men should wear a condom during oral but hardly anyone thinks about protection when a woman is getting oral.

They can be difficult to use. It takes some practice and can limit some of your usual technique. Just be patient and take your time is my only advise for the use.

They prevent pretty much all STD's--when used correctly and no body fluids creep over the edges--except probably crabs since those can spread anywhere.
Reply:I'm pretty sure this is one of those things they tell you about in school to be safe but absolutely NOBODY uses them.

I've never spoken to anyone who's used one nor have I ever seen them for sale. I would be surprised if they're even still available.
Reply:I have used them. It was a little like kissing a balloon. Flavored water-soluble lubricant on your side of the dam and unflavored on her side increases the sensation and pleasure.

When used correctly, and kept intact, they can prevent most communicable STDs.

Ive heard of it before and then yesterday I heard it again in a movie......please explain to me what it is.

What is the point of dental dam? Wouldn't saran wrap (cling film) do the same thing?

Reply:yes, you can use saran wrap, dental dam is just made of a different texture that gives a better feeling
Reply:No, otherwise saran wrap would also make an acceptable condom substitute...but it doesn't. The pores in the material are large enough to allow things through that you are trying to avoid.

Reply:No saran wrap would not do the same thing because it is a different material and subject to tearing.

The point of a dental dam? To protect you from contracting an STD when you engage in oral sex.

Why protect yourself? Because no matter how good the sex is, it is not worth dying for!
Reply:Yes it does the same thing, but if you didn't trust where you where putting your mouth in the 1st place why would you even bother. I know it is not as good for me giving, so it could be as good with her receiving with a barrier of any sort, that goes for condoms too. But safe sex is important.

Dental Dam?
A dental dam is a square piece of latex approx 4" x 4" placed over the mouth while a dentist performs a root canal. Most are the color green, but colors can vary. It is meant to isolate the tooth/teeth so that saliva and bacteria cannot re-enter and re-infect the tooth that is being treated, therefore making the inside of the tooth that is root canaled clean and sterile .
Reply:It is actually called a diaphram. And it is another form of contraceptive. It's sort of like a reverse condom. It goes inside the woman, and catches the mess.

and it is used to isolate a single tooth or several teeth

for dental procedures. You punch a small hole in it,

then clamp it to the tooth with a metal clamp, (you don't
